Dinosaur

Anja Toonen‘s crochet stool animals are lovely, really fun to crochet and make a lovely unique present for any little one. I was given the books and two stools as a project to try out by my kids for mother’s day (they know I love crochet, but there was an ulterior motive here I think).

There was much debate about who we should make first, and we settled on the dinosaur, child one being a mini paleontologist.

The yarn I selected was Style Craft Special Chunky from my favourite online supplier Wool Warehouse.  Child one pointed out as we have no idea what colour dinosaurs were a pink and blue dinosaur would be fine. However, we settled with Heather for the body  and socks (2 balls), Kharki for the scales (1 ball) and White for the snout and toes (1 ball).

I am really pleased with how it came out and the boys really love him (child two kept trying to feed him leaves whilst we were photographing him for the site) and we are looking forward to making him a companion, probably a lion (dinosaurs and lions were friends right?).

Stitch markers

Oh Grandma what big stitch markers you have…

“All the better to keep my place in my crochet project.”

Our eldest loves the tale of Little Red Riding Hood in all it’s forms.  I don’t think we have discovered a version he does not like, from the classic version by the Brothers Grimm and the charming Clever Polly and Stupid Wolf, to Roald Dahl’s hilarious rebellious Revolting Rhymes and the wonderful The Cat, the Dog, Little Red, the Exploding Eggs, the Wolf, and Grandma, he likes them all.  So when I considered doing a fairy tale set of stitch markers there was only one tale I was going to do first.

The set includes Red herself , the big bad wolf, a tree, an axe, Grandma’s cottage and Grandma’s glasses. All use a large lobster clasp which makes them ideal for crochet.  These Little Red Riding Hood stitch markers and others can be found on my Etsy store

Harry Potter and the Trial of the Stitch Markers

Keep losing your place whilst knitting and crocheting your Gryffindor scarves? Well here is a ‘magic’ solution, six Harry Potter themed stitch markers.  All come on a large lobster clasp which makes them ideal for crochet. The set consists of a broom, a Hogworts crest, a lightning bolt, an owl, the sign of the Deathly Hallows and the platform 9 3/4 sign.  These and other sets are all available on my Etsy store.

54 years of Dr Who

Is it really that long ago? How easy is it to lose track of time! Something else it is easy to lose track of, your place in a crochet or knitting project.  So in honour of that mad man in a box first hit our screens 54 years ago, I have made a set of Dr Who stitch markers.

Crochet and knitting Whovians wanting to make the Doctor’s scarf (there are lots of designs on ravelry.com) can get their own Dalek, Tardis, Sonic Screwdriver, Gas Mask and watch markers from my Etsy store.

Allons-y!

Pots

Crochet isn’t just about clothes – some old tubes, some spare wool (on the left) and raffia (right) and later that day…

I had two smart little pots to help us order the chaos our two boys leave in their wake.

Cordelia

If you are going do battle with your evil sisters over your father’s love you had better look the part, so here’s a shawl to help Shakespeare’s loving daughter.

You only need a single ball of King Cole Zig Zag sock weight yarn for this one.  The one shown below was using their ‘Mishmash’ colour.

As usual if you want to make this, or one of my other shawls or cowls yourself, you can find the kits on Etsy.
